Insomnia Fan Art
Insomnia is the most clever, thought out, and intricate story I have ever read. It's just riddled with symbolism and foreshadowing that you can only catch after a second read through. You see I love a lot of the novels that have found their way into the cannon, Lord of the Flies, Of Mice and Men, The Great Gatsby, because of how nuanced they are and how they try to explore different aspects of the human family. Yet, after reading so many of them, you realize that, while most have hope and brighter look on humanity hidden within them, its all too often overshadowed by the darker consequences of human nature. It's like they're trying to argue that, while yes there is "good" in the world, humans are inherently "evil" beings, without once trying to provide a solution that would cause those "evil" beings to strive for betterment. It's dishearteningly defeatist. Then there are novels that take the opposite end of the spectrum and recount tales of paragons and how their influence is greater than any kind of "evil" found in others. Yet such novels often come off as disingenuous or unrealistically preachy. Uplifting realistic commentary is such a difficult thing to write, especially without falling into any of the tropes, and yet Insomnia has found it. The character relationships are so beautifully complex and genuine, especially when it comes to Sans and Papyrus's talks. Semi isolated high stakes demand concern while remaining in a slice of life setting. And the story reveals just enough to keep the reader both informed and in the dark. Not to mention the art is absolutely stellar! It's detailed and dynamic yet remains readable and the character designs work so well with the style. Please, do go and give it a read and be sure to shower the artist with as much love as you can while you're there!
